Morels and Ramps

I was afraid we may have been too late, but catching an afternoon break in the rain; John Dani Jo and myself headed to one of our morel hotspots. Typically, we'd have picked some grays and some early yellow over two weeks ago.

The first morel we spotted was probably the largest we've ever harvested in Minnesota, shown here:



We found several pounds of big yellows within spitting distance of the first; but all of our other spots proved fruitless.



Content with the morels we had in posession, we decided to look for some late ramps (wild leeks) while the daylight held. It was tough, with the abundance of greenery on the forest floor; but we managed to locate several dozen large specimens to cap an excellent day foraging.
