Short But Fruitful

We hit one of our known morel hotspots yesterday evening.  After much difficulties arriving at our destination, three adults and four children clambered out of the minivan with just over an hour of daylight left.  John and his friend Eli detoured briefly to check a known ramp-producing location while the rest of us made a bee-line for the South-facing hillside where we've known morels to grow.

We ended up finding quite a few very nice morels, mostly confined to a small, open and rocky area.  There was substantial low-growing foliage, so the spotting was difficult.  It was one of those deals where you just have to hunker down and look.  And wait.  And look some more. Then "boom", there's one.

For those interested, we harvested these morels with four young people who didn't know not to pull up the whole root of the mushroom.
